Taghazout Surf Expo

SCIENTIFIC AND PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM

To understand where we are going, we must first understand where we come from. With this in mind, Taghazout Surf Expo brings together each year a multidisciplinary team of researchers, professors, and PhD students from Morocco and abroad, coordinated by the Ulysse Lab-network (Belgium) and the LARLANCO Laboratory of Ibn Zohr University (Morocco).

Their mission: to put science at the service of local stakeholders and the general public through outreach workshops and open roundtables.

In 2025, the roundtables and workshops will address five key issues:

  • Gender and Surfing: reflecting on the role of women in surfing practices and professions, and identifying levers for greater inclusion.
  • Localism: analyzing how local surfers defend their waves against outside practitioners, highlighting tensions but also exploring pathways for regulation and coexistence (see FRMS Program)
  • Labeling Surf Cities and Villages: presenting the ongoing process to create a quality and sustainability framework, and discussing the role of pilot municipalities in its implementation.
  • The Evolution of Tourist Villages between Agadir and Taghazout: examining the diversity of accommodations to co-design planning and communication strategies that promote sustainable and attractive territorial development.
  • Building a Professional Career in Surfing: helping participants identify their skills, connect them with market opportunities, and create a personal portfolio to showcase their journey and strengthen their visibility.

These sessions aim to popularize research, stimulate debate, and open up practical solutions to support a balanced and sustainable development of surf territories.
